Does Google call you to verify your business?

I was scrolling through my phone when I got a call from an overseas number. The person on the other end of the line said his name was Frank, but he could barely speak English. He claimed to be the CEO of Ebandz which is some digital marketing company with bad reviews online that I had never heard of. He then told me that my Google Map Listing wasn’t verified and it would cost $300 to get up-to-date, so I hung up on him because this seemed sketchy as hell…

He was an experienced businessman, and he knew that it wasn’t a coincidence when he received a call from the CEO of Ebandz. He had seen their website and reviews online; they were really bad. The business man didn’t even answer the phone.

Google has released clarification serving as proof that they don’t call businesses like this. Even with this, it is quite difficult to notify all business owners that could be affected.

Until a more of this information gets out there and becomes more widely known, Ebrandz reviews should be reviewed before answering any questions over-the-phone.
